Apollo Judo Club – Child Welfare Officer
At Apollo Judo Club, the safety, happiness, and wellbeing of our young judoka are at the heart of everything we do. Our Child Welfare Officer (CWO) is a dedicated member of the club who ensures that every child and young person can enjoy judo in a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment.
The CWO works closely with coaches, parents, and the wider community to uphold the highest safeguarding standards set by British Judo.
What the Child Welfare Officer Does at Apollo Judo Club
Champion a Safe and Positive Club Culture
- Promote a welcoming, respectful atmosphere where children feel valued and supported.
- Ensure safeguarding is embedded in all club activities—from beginners’ sessions to competitions and events.
- Help coaches and volunteers understand and follow British Judo’s Safeguarding Policies and Code of Conduct.
Be the First Point of Contact for Concerns
- Provide a confidential, approachable route for children, parents, and members to raise concerns or seek advice.
- Listen carefully, take all concerns seriously, and follow the correct reporting procedures.
- Work with the British Judo Safeguarding Team and external agencies when needed.
Manage and Report Safeguarding Issues
- Record and report any safeguarding concerns in line with British Judo guidelines.
- Handle information sensitively and securely, sharing only with those who need to know.
- Support individuals involved in safeguarding matters while remaining impartial and professional.
Ensure Safe Recruitment and Compliance
- Help maintain up‑to‑date DBS checks and safeguarding qualifications for all coaches and volunteers.
- Support safe recruitment practices for new helpers, assistant coaches, and club volunteers.
- Keep accurate safeguarding records for the club.
Provide Guidance and Information
- Offer advice to parents, coaches, and members on welfare issues and best practice.
- Make sure safeguarding information is clearly displayed at the club and on our digital channels.
- Stay up to date with British Judo safeguarding updates and training.
Support Our Young Judoka
- Ensure children know they can speak up if something doesn’t feel right.
- Promote positive behaviour, respect, and inclusivity on and off the mat.
- Encourage a culture where every child feels safe, confident, and part of the Apollo family.
